Kick-Off Meeting

The kick-off meeting in May 2014 marked the formal launch of the HELCATS project, a major EU-funded initiative to improve the identification and tracking of solar storms.

An international team, led by scientists from the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, met in Oxfordshire to review the activities to be undertaken within the project and to dicuss programatic details. The HELCATS initiative will exploit heliospheric imaging from NASA satellites with advanced processing and modelling techniques to follow huge clouds of solar material as they are blown off the Sun and speed their way out into our solar system.
